ANTI BULLYING CAMPAIGN HELPLINE

This Helpline helps parents to combat the problem of bullying.  It gives telephone advice to both parents and children.  Telephone 020 7378 1446 

 

BASINGSTOKE CANAL VISITOR CENTRE Mytchett Place Road, Mytchett

 

The Visitor Centre is the perfect place to start exploring the canal or simply to relax and watch the boats pass by.  Facilities at the Centre include a ‘Trailblazer’ Play Area, Gift Shop, Tearoom (open Wednesday-Sunday), Picnic Space, Free Parking, Information Point, Camping and a Function Room.  The opening times are Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am – 4.45pm (Easter to September) and Tuesday to Friday, 10.30am – 4.00pm (October to Easter). NATIONAL CHILDMINDING ASSOC

Child’s Play (Under 5’s Art and Craft Group)

Held at the Baptist Church, Queens Road, Norh Camp, the group meet every Monday (9.30am-11.am).  Cutting, sticking, colouring, drawing, painting, modelling, food craft, singing, plus a book corner is all available.  Refreshments are provided, along with facilities for baby siblings.  Old clothes.overalls should be worn.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  The cost is £2.20 (first child) and £1.20 (each additional child, excluding babies).  For further information call Claire on 01252 663687 / 641004 or email her at curlywee28@ntlworld.com.

 

CONNEXIONS DIRECT WEBSITE

Contact a Family

For the last 25 years Contact a Family has helped to put parents of children with disabilities in touch with one another.  Unfortunately for families affected by a very rare disorder, there may be no suitable group available.  On 1st July last year a new website was launched called www.makingcontact.org.  The website enables families to see whether anyone else affected by the same conditions is looking for contact with others.  For more details telephone 0808 808 3555      (10am-4pm) Monday to Friday.

COVE CHILD CONTACT CENTRE

A new contact centre had been set up at   Cove Methodist Church.  The aim is to   enable the non custodial parent in a

separation to be able to spend some quality time with their child/children giving the custodial parent a couple of hours respite.  The centre is open on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month between 2pm and 4pm.

HARVEST TRUST HOLIDAYS FOR CHILDREN 2006

Harvest Trust is a charity which provide FREE seaside holidays, based at their holiday centre in West Wales for groups of 12 disadvantaged children aged between 8 and 11 years.  The week long holidays take place between April and September and are organised in partnership with schools, community groups and childcare organisations.  The Trust specialises in simple “no pressure” holidays which particularly benefit withdrawn children with low self esteem who need space and encouragement to build self confidence.  Harvest Trust provides all accommodation, transport and admissions free of charge.  Your organisation need only buy food and provide 3 adult workers to accompany the children.  Application forms are available from www.harvesttrust.com or telephone 01559 371190.

 

HOMESTART

Based in Mayfield Community Centre, Totland Close, Home-Start is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer friendship and support to parents with young children who may be feeling overwhelmed or exhausted by the stresses of everyday life.  The service is available to any parent in North East Hampshire with at least 1 child under 5 years.  Volunteers visit families in their own homes on a regular basis for as long as it is needed.  The support offered can vary from friendship to a listening ear to practical help with the shopping or occasionally taking the children out.  Any family can refer themselves for help by telephoning 01252 545416 or by emailing homestart@nehants.fslife.co.uk

 

HEALTH QUESTIONS? NHS DIRECT 0845 4647

If you have a worrying health problem, the NHS confidential 24 hour Helpline gives immediate access to professional advice.  Trained nurses will advise on the best course of action.  They also offer a translation service making their level of service the same for people speaking 100 ethnic languages.  NHS Direct can also answer questions on all kinds of health care issues with over 3000 patient information leaflets available, details of over 6000 national and local self help and support groups.  Information can be given over the telephone or sent via the post

 

LASER-RUN

 THE LEN TYLER MUSIC SCHOOL

 The Len Tyler Music School provides structured music classes for young children (from birth to about 8 years) on a weekly basis. Child centred-lessons are based on the work of Kodaly (also Dalcroze and Orff).  These music lessons will provide an ideal grounding for any child whether intending to learn a musical instrument or just to gain an understanding and love of music.  All children learn to read fundamental rhythmic music with understanding before attending school (year R in the state system).

LIFE Housing

MAYFIELD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP

MAYFIELD UK ON-LINE CENTRE

It is part of the Government commitment that everyone should have access to computers.  The centre offers a wide range of activities for people of all ages and experience.  The use of the facilities and attendance on any advertised course, workshop of activity are free after paying the initial joining fee of £2 per adult and £1 per child.


 

MUSICAL TOTS

OLIVE BRANCH CHILDREN’S CLOTHING EXCHANGE

 

This clothing exchange (0-12 years) and coffee corner is held every Thursday Morning between 9.30 and 12.30 (Term Time Only) at The Church of the Good Shepherd, Sand Hill, Farnborough (Behind the 6th FormCollege). Nepalese and Albanian Classes

These classes run on Saturday Mornings.  The Nepalese class is held in Farnborough and the Albanian in Aldershot.  They enable children from these countries to retain their native language and also gives others the opportunity to learn these languages.  For more details contact Caroline Keith.

 

Parent Action Group for Special Play

P.A.G for Special Play are a Community Action Group who are registered with Rushmoor Voluntary Services.  As an independent Group they are able to apply for funding that has been set up specifically to serve local communities.  Their aim is to use the funding to enable the Special Needs and Siblings Summer Scheme to continue running.  They also want to develop opportunities, including play provision for children with disabilities over the age of 12.

PLAY FLOORBALL @ FARNBOROUGH

Floorball is based on Ice Hockey but is played in a gym.  Players use a lightweight ‘airflow’ ball.  Floorball for 4 – 12 year olds is held every Friday from 5.00pm until 6.00pm.  Spaces are limited, so advance booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.  Floorball for 18 years and over – The Southern Vipers Football Club (www.southnvipers.com) train every Wednesday from 7.00pm until 8.00pm.  Beginners are always welcome to drop in.  Telephone 01252 370411 or email enquiries@farnboroughleisurecentre.co.uk

 

The Preschool Learning Alliance (In conjunction with the Adult Community Learning Fund)

Priory Street Baby and Toddler Group

RUSHMOOR YOUTH FORUM

The Forum meets 4 times a year at Rushmoor Borough Council.  It assists with the development of the Borough’s Youth Plan, consultation to ensure young people shape services and facilities, national and local initiatives, work to promote the needs of young people and facilitates effective communications networks between various youth work

SAFER RUSHMOOR

This is the name of the Community Safety Partnership covering the whole of Farnborough and Aldershot.  The Partnership consists of around 20 organisations including the Police, Rushmoor Borough Council, The Youth Offending Team, Pavilion Housing Association and The Drug Action Group.  They meet regularly to work in partnership to reduce anti-social behaviour, crime and the fear of crime in your area.  If you have an issue that you would like to bring to their attention, please contact the Community Safety Team at Rushmoor Borough Council on 01252 398175 or email bob.lampart@rushmoor.gov.uk

 

SOCCER AT 6

Sunshine and Showers

Sunshine and Showers is a support group for people who live in Rushmoor or Hart and are experiencing depression.  A daytime group is held every Wednesday in Fleet and every Thursday in Yateley.  A new evening group has started at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Farnborough.  This group is aimed at people who are experiencing depression, but are managing to hold down their job.  The groups are very friendly and informal, with some people just going to listen, some to talk and some just go with not expectations at all.  It is ok to take a carer with you on your first visit.  Unfortunately there are no crèche facilities available.  For further information call Evelyn on 01252 8156522.

 

Take Five

This is a drop in group held at Mayfield Community Centre, Totland Close, Farnborough.  It is held every Monday and Wednesday morning during term time between 10am and 11.30am.

 

TEEN FIT JUNIOR GYM SESSIONS – Farnborough Leisure Centre

These sessions are aimed at children aged 13-16 years.  They can use the gym under supervision from a Fitness Instructor from 8.00am – 8.00pm Saturdays & Sundays and from 1.00pm – 4.00pm in School Holidays.  Guidance will be given on using the treadmills, bikes, steppers and cross-trainers.  The sessions aim to introduce fitness, awareness and enjoyment of a healthy lifestyle.  For further details on the facilities available telephone 01252 370411

 

TELEPHONE INTERPRETATION SERVICE

Residents and visitors who have trouble understanding English can access Rushmoor services and facilities through this service.  By using Language Line the Council staff can communicate with people in almost 100 languages via a telephone link to a bank of interpreters.  The service is available to anyone enquiring by phone or in person at the Offices.  Council forms, leaflets and other documents can, also, be translated.  For details contact Martin McCarthy on 01252 398880.

WATERLANE MULTIZONE PLAY AREA

 

Situated at Mayfield, Farnborough, this new development was completed in partnership with Rushmoor Borough Council, the Mayfield Partnership and Rushmoor Healthy Living at a cost of £165,000.  There are different themed zones, including Toddler, Junior and Teenage areas, the latter having enhanced skate facilities. The playground is equipped for children with Special Needs. 

 

WAVELL-CODY COMMUNITY CAMPUS

Situated on the Wavell School site in Lynchford Road, the Centre is open to the community 7 days a week.  There is a 4 court indoor sports hall, a floodlit 8 court netball centre, grass pitches and rooms to hire of all sizes.  There is also a fitness centre.  In addition Adult Education Courses are on offer.  Telephone 01252 317603 for details.

 

 WIZZY WORLD

Wizzy World is a new Adventure Play area aimed at both toddlers and children up to 11 years old.  It is open 7 days a week.
